Step into the world of pyrography and show your creativity by making your own customized wooden spoon to take home. By the end of the session you will have some basic tips and techniques that will hopefully give you a better understanding of this wonderful art form!

I have been doing pyrography for 9 years now. I work and create things with both wood and leather. You can find me at local trade shows throughout the year and on social media. I specialize in creating custom pieces that are one of a kind, unique and sentimental.

Wood working projects at Men's Shed Grande Prairie
Men's Shed Grande Prairie is excited to welcome GPPSD employees to the shed. There will be hands-on activities for all participants.
Activities include: Introduction to wood carving, Demonstration on wood turning on a lathe, Shaping of comfort birds, Decorating and completing Bumble Bee houses for the Alberta Native Bee habitat assistance program.

Sound Bath with Awaken Counselling & Holistic Services
What is Sound Healing? Sound healing is a therapeutic practice that utilizes the vibrational frequencies of sound to promote healing and relaxation. During the session, participants are immersed in a symphony of carefully crafted sounds, including crystal bowls, chimes, drums, and other instruments. This immersive experience has been proven to reduce stress, promote emotional well-being, and provide much-needed support to the nervous system.
Benefits of Sound Healing:

Aerial Hammocks Class with RRebel Academy
Our beginner aerial hammocks session will bring you through the foundations of conditioning, stretching & posing in the hammock. This class is suitable for anyone wanting to take to a slow and gentle approach to learning aerial hammock techniques, and ideal for the student with no or very little previous hammock experience.
*Participants are asked to wear comfortable clothing that you can easily move in and will protect your skin from fabric burn.

Functional Fitness Class with Melise Sears, Vigor Community Fitness
Can you easily lift your suitcase into the overhead bin on the bus or plane, or pick up something you’ve dropped under the bed? Are you looking forward to activities like family hiking on the trails of Jasper Park or doing a walking tour of Italy in retirement? Functional exercise is about making sure that your fitness level will allow you to have the quality of life you want, now and in your future. Functional exercises use various muscles in the upper and lower body at the same time, and emphasize core stability; they train your muscles to help you do everyday activities safely and efficiently.

Unfacilitated session - Outdoor Skating at Muskoseepi Pond - Ernie Radbourne Pavillion
Experience outdoor ice skating at the Muskoseepi Pond!
This is an unfacilitated activity, there will not be an instructor or lesson provided.
Please note: hockey and hockey equipment is NOT allowed on the pond as it is not a high board facility.

*The Ernie Radbourne Pavilion does not provide skate rentals for the pond, participants need to bring their own skates* 

Muskoseepi Pond
Is located beside the Ernie Radbourne Pavilion in the beautiful Muskoseepi Park. During the winter months, when the pond is frozen, our Parks crew maintains the surface of the ice for the community to use for recreational skating.
The pond is available to the public free of cost.
Benches are available on the patio for putting on your skates, and there is a skate-safe surface down to the pond. The Ernie Radbourne Pavilion also has a warm spot to use washrooms or to put-on, or take-off skates when open.

Learn to play Pickle Ball from a pro! We will have 4 courts set up, with room for 4 participants per court. Participants will be divided by experience level. 
*Clean indoor shoes are required for this session
*If you have your own pickleball paddle please bring it, there will be extras available for those who do not have their own.

A little about Marc: I absolutely love sports ranging from Badminton, Pickleball, squash, ping pong, volleyball, hockey, golf, track etc. My main sport when growing up was badminton playing competitively throughout grades 7-12. In grade 12 I went to Artic Winter Games for Team Alberta North in Whitehorse Yukon. I was #1 Ranked player in Grade 12 Provincials.
I Started playing Pickle Ball recreational in 2018. In 2021 I stated playing competitively in Alberta at the beginner self-rated level 3.0. I soon realized that I was underrated and have moved up very quickly playing 4.5 level now and sponsored tournament player for Poach Pickleball. I have had great success winning 30 medals in various tournaments in Alberta and Saskatchewan. In 2022 I played in event called Pickle fest, This was the top players in the west. Playing in teams of 4, 2 men and 2 women. We ended up getting bronze and a bit of cash winnings. Every year mainly summer I compete in tournaments in Edmonton and Calgary other various communities. Provincials, Westerns and Nationals.

Pound & Club Dance Fitness Class with Bliss Be Fit
POUND is a full-body workout that combines cardio, strength training, and drumming with yoga and Pilates-inspired movements. Participants use weighted drumsticks called Ripstix to create the music as they work out. Club is a dance fitness exercise that combines cardio with dance moves to create a full-body workout. It includes a variety of dance styles, and the music will take you back to your clubbing days or remind you why you went in dancing in the first place!
Bring a bottle of water, a sweat towel if you'd like and a pair of indoor shoes.

Please note this is an unfacilitated session. There is no lesson or guide involved, just a chance to get outside for some fresh air and exercise & give snowshoeing a try.
Snowshoes can be picked up and dropped off at the lobby of the Ernie Radourne Pavilion.

Ernie Radourne Pavilion
Built through grants using the Alberta Heritage Fund in 1986, Muskoseepi Park gave Grande Prairie residents and visitors a maintained green space filled with amenities.
The Ernie Radbourne Pavilion is the central administration building for the park, and also provides meeting and event space.
Just outside the building, there is a pond used for winter skating and stocked for fishing in the summer. There are also children's playgrounds, a spray deck, tennis courts, and skateboard park.
The pavilion has direct access to the Muskoseepi Park trail system, and nearby areas for lawn bowling, horseshoes, mini golf, the Outdoor Pool, and the Grande Prairie Museum. For more information about Muskoseepi Park, please see the park's about page.

If you can solve all of the puzzles she’s set up in her classroom, you’ll be allowed to leave early. Better get to work!

Missing: As the days pass, so do the range of emotions each parent or friend experiences. After the 10th time being interviewed you almost begin to numb the noise out. We all know what's happening, but nobody has the courage to put it into words... THERE IS A SERIAL KILLER! The start of each day is usually the worst. Everyone waits to see who won't show up to class or can't be reached for the next shift. As it turns out you get to be the lucky person this time. Your best friend has been missing since last night and it's almost funny in a sick way since the two of you joked just the previous day about what you would do if the other was taken. After explaining in the best detail you muster, you assure the police you have told them everything to the point of ad nauseum - swearing there is no small detail you left out. Spending the day at home you scroll through your old messages between the two of you, and there it is! A week or so back she mentioned a weird truck the was following her. She even made the joke that "It looked like some killer from the woods in an old cheesy horror movie" and like a bolt of lightning you realize!!! There's an old cabin you two stumbled upon awhile back, it looked abandoned but you bet that it's a good place to start. You call your friend group and convince them it's a good idea to check it out: "we can't tell the police it might take too long, let's go now" Your group approaches the cabin as a thick fog settles in and a generator can be heard in the distance. If one thing is absolute... it's that your best friend won't be on the next poster to say MISSING

Escape Room Experience - Trapped Entertainment
Pawn Shop: Life is never dull in the hippest pawn shop in the city. Shop owner, Walter, has been scamming and ripping people off for years in slimy schemes and gambling. He is always taking advantage of people who were never smart enough to see through him. Unfortunately, this time Walter has taken advantage of a “nobody” who is actually a “somebody”. A Russian gangster who is tied to the mob, is not falling for Walters tricks….and Walter owes them, BIG. They have given Walter only tonight, to cough up the $100k they owe him for his hustle scheme and another 100k if he wants to live to see the sun rise. The Mob refuses to let Walter go to collect the cash, but instead give him 1 phone call to recruit a collector.
Walter calls you, his best friend, and begs for your help to collect the cash he owes which is stashed in his pawn shop. He offers you $20k to bring the cash to his location so he can be freed. There is a catch – if you don’t deliver the cash in 1 hour, not only will Walter be killed but you also will be next on the Russian's hit list. The shop is closed, but Walter tells you the location of a hidden key to enter the store and a hint that will provide you with the first step in locating the money in his shop.

In order to escape one of our four unique rooms, participants will have to work together to uncover clues, and solve puzzles under intense pressure of the ticking clock. The very nature of the interactive escape game encourages participants to interact and express themselves with colleagues in new and different ways. They will be thinking more creatively and having fun doing it! When the time runs out, players are left with a sense of accomplishment and new respect for teammates, and of course, a celebratory group photo!

Kokum Scarves and Tea Workshop - Iskwesis Empowerment Project
Elder and resource author Kelly Benning will join Pitone Youth Program Coordinator and Educator Lindsy Coney to present the history and intent behind the Iskwesis Empowerment Project and the Kokum Scarves and Tea Workshop. The workshop tells the curriculum-connected story of historical trade and relationships between various cultures, and the impact of colonization on Indigenous people. Indigenous ways of knowing are explored and honoured through teachings of local plant medicines, respect and reciprocity. The workshop will culminate in participants making a tea blend to give to someone and receiving the gift of a kokum scarf.

 Information about the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre’s “Iskwesis Empowerment Project” Educational Resource
 The Iskwesis Empowerment Project aims to uplift Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit + people by nurturing healthy relationships and connected communities. The well-being and safety of Indigenous women and girls are deeply impacted by the society they live in, the level of acceptance and love within their communities, and the quality of their relationships with others. The accompanying documents and reports provide educators with foundational understanding of the policies and practices that profoundly impact the experiences of Indigenous women and girls. The workshops for classrooms, which are age appropriate and connected to curriculum, aim to provide students with a deeper understanding of Indigenous culture, offering the opportunity to learn about the sacred role of women, girls, and two-spirit persons (Iskwesis Empowerment Project, p. 2).
 
Grande Prairie Friendship Centre invites our local teachers to partner in introducing the workshops from the Iskwesis Empowerment Project into your classrooms. The purpose of creating the Iskewisis Empowerment Project is to actively aid in ending violence towards Indigenous women and girls. The workshops are based on the concept that strength-based teaching, community building, and cultural awareness education are tools to aid in violence prevention. By participating in these workshops, we collectively contribute to creating safer spaces for all. Ultimately, this initiative aims to promote understanding, respect, and empowerment among all participants (Iskwesis Empowerment Project, pp.6-7).

Pierogi Making Class with Troyanada Society of Ukrainian Culture and Heritage
Learn to make pierogies from scratch! In this hands-on session, participants will make, roll & cut the dough, fill and form the pierogies, and then cook and enjoy what they have made. Participants will leave with a recipe to make their own pierogies at home.
* Pierogies will be cooked in class. Participants can enjoy them for lunch after they are cooked or can bring a container to take some home with them.

Troyanada Society of Ukrainian Culture and Heritage
The Troyanda Society of Ukrainian Culture & Heritage has been an active part of Grande Prairie's Cultural Community since 1975. Now nearly 50 years later, we are very excited to be in our own facility located in the Richmond Centre! Our facility contains a professionally equipped dance studio, featuring sprung wood floors, full-length mirrors, ballet barres, and sound system as well as storage space for costumes, supplies and materials for our many workshops and events. Our Society strives to provide programs and services that honor the culture and traditions of the Ukraine. Our Troyanda Ukrainian dancers are the most well known part of our Society. Troyanda also continues to develop new events to celebrate and highlight Ukrainian culture.

Winter Hike to Lost Lake lead by Triple Terrain Trekkers
Enjoy a winter hike and get to know the local trail system. Triple Terrain trekkers will lead participants on a hike to Lost Lake. The hike will begin at 10:00a.m. participants can expect the walk to the lake to take approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Once at the lake you will take a short break to enjoy the views and eat your packed lunch, then will begin the 1 hour, 15-minute walk back. Total session time is 3 hours, participants can expect to be back at the trailhead by 1:00p.m.
* Participants are encouraged to pack a light lunch to enjoy at the lake.
* Reminder: wear appropriate clothing and footwear for a winter hike

Join Chelsea from Farm 2 Table On 51 for a fun hour of learning about locally grown dried flowers, how to grow them, best varieties for drying and then create your own art to take home. A variety of different line art options are provided for you to choose from or try your hand at creating your own. Then, select your own dried florals to embellish them with. Creations make beautiful room decor, gifts and greeting cards. Attendants are welcome to create one or more as time allows.


Farm to Table on 51
Chelsea Anderson is the owner of Farm to Table on 51. They fresh organically grown produce to our community and surrounding area by subscription during the growing season and 2021 marked our first year adding a cut flower garden. For the first time, we welcomed people to the farm to tour the gardens and cut their own bouquets in ‘The Flower Patch’.
In the years to come we hope to provide nutritious tasty fruits and vegetables to our community and share our farm with folks in The Flower Patch.
